Car Insurance | Automobile Insurance Information

Auto Insurance AgentAuto insurance protects you against financial loss if you have an accident with your vehicle. It is a risk contract between you and your insurance company.

The terms are that you agree to pay the premium and the insurance company agrees to pay your losses as defined in your policy. These terms can vary considerably from policy to policy so it is important to learn all about them.

An auto insurance policy can be comprised of six different kinds of coverage. At a minimum, auto insurance usually is comprised of property, liability and medical coverage. Property coverage pays for damage to your car or in the event of the theft of your car.

Liability insurance coverage pays for your legal responsibility to others for bodily injury or property damage arising from an accident. Medical coverage pays for the cost of treating injuries, rehabilitation and sometimes even lost wages and/or funeral expenses. If you're financing a car, your lender may also have requirements.

If you are leasing the vehicle, be sure to check your lease contract for any minimum coverage limits. Almost all leases require that you carry a minimum of liability coverage or you will be in violation of the lease.
